Two more days offers chances to identify technologies and mingle

ATLANTA--Days two and three of ASIS International's Seminar and Exhibits offered more opportunities for security practitioners to find new technologies and mingle with the rest of the industry.

On the show floor, GE Security continued to promote the message of integration. Dean Seavers, president and CEO of GE Security, said this enables the company to build security solutions, not just product platforms. He also said that end users are pushing the company to have more direct contact with them. During the company's global sales meeting earlier this year, a number of end users in attendance told GE, and more importantly its integrators, that they want to be able to talk to GE directly. The intent, Seavers said, is not to interrupt the sales channel but rather opening up the lines of communication.

At ADT's booth, John Koch, the company's president, said global accounts is a focus for the integration giant. He said global customers want similar, if not the same, technologies deployed worldwide and ADT is building its capabilities further to deliver these solutions -- the biggest challenge, he said, is being knowledgeable about each country's different rules and regulations.

Barbara Bryan, director of professional services and support, global center of competence, intelligent video at Siemens, showcased the company's analytic capabilities, some which came from its acquisition of Vistascape two years ago. She said surveillance today is a more than $100-billion global market and most of that spending is on guard labor. She said incorporating analytics into a surveillance program will help security leaders reduce these personnel costs.

ObjectVideo was touting its OEM relationship with Pelco. Ed Troha, director of marketing and communications for OV, said Pelco will embed the ObjectVideo OnBoard suite of analytics and software tools beginning with the new Pelco Sarix cameras.

Tom Brokaw was the keynote speaker on Wednesday and talked about his experience during the NBC anthrax scare following 9/11, but focused mainly on the opportunities the United States brings and how we as an industry can best put those opportunities to work.
