Threats against Red Sox prompt heightened security
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.--The Boston Red Sox and Major League Baseball dispatched security teams to join the club for this week's three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays in response to a recent threat made against several players.

According to a report in the Boston Herald yesterday, the team recently received a note that targeted black and Latin players, citing at least two by name, in an envelope that looks to have been postmarked in Memphis, Tenn. At least two of the Red Sox's top security officials, as well as a security team from the league office in New York, have been sent to accompany the players at the stadium and in their hotel.
