Maritime security drill to 'knock the kinks out'
LONG BEACH, Calif.--A three-day security exercise at the Port of Long Beach last week revealed minor flaws in the local maritime security committee's counterterrorism program.

"It showed that there are still some flaws that we're looking to correct," Sgt. Rangel of the Long Beach port police told the Long Beach Press Telegram, without offering specifics.

The annual drill tests the preparedness and coordination of the Long Beach and Los Angeles police departments, the Coast Guard and the FBI to work together to prevent a terrorist attack.

Last week's drill included a simulated attack on a cruise ship with improvised explosive devices, and involved more than 350 emergency responders, the Press Telegram reported.

"Every year we find better ways of doing things," Lt. Andrew Munoz of the U.S Coast Guard told the paper. "It's to knock the kinks out of the plan."
